While kids are learning to ski we believe that ski lessons should be safe, fun and staffed by the best ski instructors in the industry.
"My kids had an excellent spring ski camp with Landon. He created a plan, coordinated with the resort, and gave us lots of feedback. His technical knowledge, energy and sense of fun worked really well with the kids."
-Mark Boonstra
While improving ones skiing at a bigger resort like Mount Washington and taking Mount Washington kids ski lessons is always fun, Mount Cain is a quiet, local ski resort located on Northern Vancouver Island approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes north of Campbell River BC. Don’t let the small size of Cain fool you! With plenty of powder from an annual average snowfall of over 15 meters (38 feet), no crowds and varied terrain to explore, Mount Cain is one of Canada’s best kept winter secrets.
This isn't just any holiday learn to ski camp! At night, children & teens stay in a beautiful lodge where practice their cooking skills for the rest of the group (it's just no fun camping at this time of year when you need dry gear every day!). During the ski day kids are split into ski lesson groups based on skiing ability and experience. They learn how to sharpen and wax their skis, learn all about ski design, shapes and materials, and get expert ski instruction from high-end, experienced skiers and snow boarders. When it's time to stop learning to ski / board for the day, youth get to try other Vancouver Island winter activities like sledding or snowshoeing, hike the trails and experience the surrounding island alpine ecology or just simply play in the snow! The whole time they are learning to work together, to take care of themselves and appreciate the winter wonder land surrounding them without any technological distratcions. They don't even realize it - they are just having a great time!
Children & youth learn some of the skills required to run a successful ski trip to Mount Washington, Mount Cain or another ski area. Everything from making a meal to reading the weather to cleaning up after it's all done. Look out, by the end of the ski camp, kids & teens will be able to ski circles around you and have huge smiles on their faces!

Skiing is an incredibly fun activity but carries risk. Western Educational Adventures takes safety seriously. Not only do we want our participants to have an exceptional time, but just as importantly, we want them to return home safe and sound. All of Western Educational Adventures staff are certified in high level first aid and have years of experience managing risk in the outdoors. Our ski instructors are certified with the CSIA - Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance and have been teaching kids skiing lessons on Vancouver Island dor years, they really know their stuff! You won’t find better ski lessons or a more qualified ski instructing team anywhere else!
We believe that a good experience starts with good nutrition. Proper diet and eating habits are lacking in today’s society - a result of readily available fast foods, processed foods and a lack of nutritional education. We strive to provide quality, simple, wholesome meals with limited processed ingredients – in addition to the occasional smores and limited other tasty treats. This is part of why we include our participants in all meal planning, purchasing and cooking.
We are also very experienced in dealing with dietary restrictions and serious food allergies. Great care is taken to avoid serious participant food allergens whenever possible. Where this is not possible, we take great care to avoid cross contamination of ingredients.
"Landon guided an overnight trip for our family on the Juan de Fuca trail. Healthy eating is important to us. Landon helped our kids build an outdoor oven and they were soon baking an amazing dinner. It’s an incredible feeling knowing that you can look after yourself in the outdoors."
-Carole Damnjanovic
